Did you know that the Kiwi fruit is not a native of New Zealand ! The fuzzy fruit originated in China as suggested by its other name "Chinese Gooseberry", According to the story of one of the world’s greatest botanical hijacks circulating for decades, the seeds of of the Chinese gooseberry were bought to New Zealand by a school teacher and were given to a avid backyard gardener who successfully raised it. As gooseberries were not particularly popular, it was decided to name the furry, brown fruit after New Zealand’s furry, brown, flightless national bird.
